Annual Washington Christmas Food Giveaway Provides Meals to Those in Need During the Holidays

WASHINGTON, NC (WNCT) – Christmas is a great time to give and that’s what a family did on Saturday. They cooked and distributed meals to everyone who stopped by for their fourth annual Christmas food gift.
Kenneth Harvey is the owner of Harvey’s Trucking. He and his mother take care of the community at different times of the year.
“It’s really special because there are a lot of people in need right now. And you know not everyone will tell you that, but there are a lot of people out there who are in need, ”Harvey said.
Harvey and his mom pay for everything out of their own pocket and cook everything themselves to make sure those who are hungry get fed on Christmas. They prepared the food and distributed it until all the packed meals were collected.
“This is something I wanted to do today. God blesses all we have and it’s a pleasure to work with him because he has such a big heart, ”said volunteer Judy Roundtree.
Families and individuals have come to West Martin Luther King Jr. Drive for a hotplate. For one participant, collecting food meant more to him than just showing up for a meal.
“It brings back memories, and it helps me and tells me right now that it’s time to change, so I’m going to change,” said Antonia Harvey.
The volunteers said it was the least they could do for the community and for those in need during this holiday season.
