HEB driver continues to truck up to 4 million safe miles
The road to retail success is a team effort. HEB recently honored one of its transport partners who reached an important milestone. Company truck driver Danny Guerrero, Jr., with four decades of driving experience behind him, has been commended for driving four million miles consecutively without a traffic accident or incident.
With an appropriate “Non-Stop” CB grip, Guerrero is only the second HEB rider to achieve this feat. He was inducted into the retailer’s Truck Driver Hall of Fame in 1994 and is also a longtime driving instructor and trainer.
When he passed that mark in a recent race in San Antonio, he was greeted by business executives, fellow HEB drivers, and supportive friends and family. “It’s amazing,” he said. ” I did not expect that. I started at 21. It’s something you get used to and if you like it, you’re going to hang on to it.
Todd Wright, group vice president of transportation for HEB, praised Guerrero for this record and commitment to the company, evident in his millions of miles behind the wheel that included occasional hurricanes and frequent adverse weather conditions. “It is an honor that we recognize this tremendous achievement, and it is also a very important achievement,” said Wright. “It does this while moving up to 80,000 pounds of product on Texas freeways alongside other motorists. So it is even more important that it does so safely.
In an era of supply chain disruptions and driver shortages, HEB honored three other dedicated and reliable drivers. Transport partners who have recently reached three million kilometers safely include Efrain Garza, Eric Orozco and Beningo “Benny” Zamudio.
With approximately 400 stores in Texas and Mexico, San Antonio-based HEB is # 13 on the PG 100, Progressive Grocer’s 2021 list of the best food and consumables retailers in North America.
