National freight transport via TRACECA up in 1H2022

The volume of freight transport through the Azerbaijani section of the Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) increased by 19.3% and amounted to 24.2 million tons in the first half of 2022, reports Azernews, citing the National Statistics Committee.
In January-June, 13 million tons, or 53.9%, of goods were transported by road, 7.9 million tons, or 32.6%, by rail and 3.2 million tons, or 13.5%, by sea.
Transit cargo represented 6.6 million tonnes or 27.3% of total cargo traffic along the TRACECA corridor in the first six months of the year.
Last year, Azerbaijan and TRACECA agreed on cooperation in the areas of geographical expansion of corridors and digitalization. The parties agreed to cooperate in the development of multimodal transport, to increase the competitiveness of container traffic, to develop new projects that can attract additional flows of goods to the corridor and to intensify efforts to promote the TRACECA corridor. at bilateral and international levels.
TRACECA, which was founded in 1993, is an international transport program involving the European Union and 12 Member States from the regions of Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan) .
