Pacific Air Cargo Helps Ship UH Rocket to and from Los Angeles for Friends of Amateur Rocketry Competition
– Paul Skellon, Marketing Director of Pacific Air Cargo
HONOLULU, HI, USA, June 9, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ – Pacific Air Cargo (PAC) has long supported the University of Hawaii, carrying all types of cargo for various industries, scientific facilities and equipment to the sports equipment of the sports department and everything in between. They had the pleasure of helping the College of Engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. PAC transported the Team HÅkÅ«lele rocket to Los Angeles for national competition in the Mojave Desert, California, near Edwards Air Force Base.
This event, called the Friends of the Amateur Rocket (FAR) 1030 Competition, was open to college, university and amateur rocket enthusiasts for two categories of competition: Building and launching rockets at 10K or 30K feet.
Second in the competition, the team’s rocket, named Kuamo’o (Milky Way) was 15 feet long, carried a payload, and was the team’s first two-stage powered rocket. It reached a height of about 30,000 feet, protected its components from take-off to landing, and deployed a radio-controlled rover during landing. The students of the HÅkÅ«lele team have been working on KuamoÊ»o for more than two years as they were unable to compete last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The competition allows students to put their designs to the test and gain hands-on experience in aerospace engineering.
âPacific Air Cargo is proud to support the UH Manoa School of Engineering and its efforts to push its limits and go above and beyond,â said Paul Skellon, Director of Marketing for Pacific Air Cargo. “We are grateful to The Delivery People who have partnered with us to provide ground transportation in Hawai’i.”
Pacific Air Cargo was part of a consortium of organizations that provided financial and in-kind assistance to enable the team to build their rocket, transport it to and from Mojave, and compete so successfully.
