Guy Barnett, Trade Minister

The Liberal Tasmanian Government knows that the rest of Australia, and the world, wants what our state produces and we are pleased that Tasmanian businesses are getting more export help and advice through the new free service from Tasmanian Export Freight Logistics Consulting (TEFLAS).

Consulting firm Affairs of State has been appointed to help local small and medium-sized businesses optimize their transportation operations, connect to transportation services, develop new freight channels and identify potential cost savings.

The free service will help businesses improve their competitiveness and long-term viability and help get their products to overseas markets as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Affairs of State has a team based in Tasmania and significant freight and logistics knowledge as well as extensive business networks across our state and beyond.

The service will help continue the growth of Tasmanian exports, which reached a record $4.33 billion in the latest ABS figures, 19% more than the previous year.

Director and Principal, Mr Hans van Pelt, will lead the department drawing on his direct experience in developing access and air capacity strategies for Tourism Tasmania and in freight and logistics since he was CEO from Launceston Airport.

Ensuring that the service meets the needs of each business, State Affairs will undertake on-site business visits and analysis of critical operational information to identify issues, potential efficiencies and opportunities for individual customers.

They will also work to identify supply chain improvement initiatives and connect exporting companies with freight and logistics providers.

Eligible businesses will be prioritized based on an assessment of their supply chain needs, with priority given to businesses facing issues that may affect operational sustainability and viability.
