Uwe Köhler, CEO, Sailing Cargo
- Is it true that Sailing Cargo is building the world’s first mobile aquaculture vessel?
That’s right. At Sailing Cargo Inc., we want to change the future of global fishing while proving the value of clean shipping. Our team of experienced professionals are building the world’s largest zero-emission sailboat to meet the growing global demand for healthy salmon and protein in the most efficient and environmentally sustainable way. The conventional fish farming industry has faced incredible difficulties over the past decade due to the increasing destruction of coastal regions and pollution of marine ecosystems. We want to create the most unique cradle-to-cradle platform for natural seafood farming aboard our CO2-neutral sailboat “Quadriga Aqua” to become the most sustainable vessel-based fish production in the world. world. At the same time, we aim to provide the best, healthiest sashimi grade “Salmo Salar” available in the world market.
- What is the main mission of the project?
The world is facing a growing increase in the global demand for fish. This translates into a supply shortfall of approximately 33 million metric tons projected by 2030. With our Quadriga Aqua project, we not only aim to offer an effective solution to the gap between supply and demand of fish, but we want to offer the most sustainable alternative to RAS and NetCages as we are committed to contributing to a carbon neutral future. Our excellent team of experts wants to build a holistic and sustainable value chain for partners and customers while offering 100% organic and naturally harvested fish.
- What are the main characteristics of the sailboat?
Our goal is to combine existing expertise and new ideas in sailing and seafood farming. Our zero-emission sailboat is the first of its kind. With a sail area of 7,200 m², a single controllable Dyna Rigg Sai l system, Quadriga Aqua will be the world’s largest sailboat powered entirely by water and wind generators, delivering emissions savings of up to 98 %. We operate with the lowest impact on ecosystem services. Our sailboats can be operated fully automatically, which allows us to sail all year round.
We combine the most unique technical facilities with modern fishing practices. On board our vessel we operate with 15 independent production lines for fish farming. We implement different sizes of aquariums for different growth stages, allowing us to implement highly sustainable and careful breeding practices.
- Where can you get your fish?
Our sustainable production process is proven on land and can be adapted on waters around the world. We have mapped our land fishing success on a vessel-based process cycle system. Operating on a sailboat gives us mobile flexibility to fish anywhere in the world – all year round. Using mobile farming, we have the ability to offer a wide range of distribution to produce salar de salon in global waters where temperatures reach between 6 and 12 degrees C. This allows us to harvest our fish up to 4 times a year, which translates to planned production. result of 3,200 t of fish per year. Our plannable quantities of fish production at guaranteed times give us a major competitive advantage.
- Can you explain the workflow on board the ship?
Our Co2 – Neutral Sailing Ship offers a new dimension of seafood farming by welcoming the first sustainable seafood farm aboard its vessel. We guarantee the fastest and most sustainable fish production – from our vessel directly to the consumer – while avoiding the long supply chains seen in conventional fish farming.
Our fish is raised and harvested in mobile tanks on board the sailboat. The fish ponds will be continuously supplied with fresh seawater through opening flaps in the ship’s hull, controlled by natural pressure and the constant movement of the ocean. Until marketing, which will be achieved within 12 months of stocking, the fish will be continuously monitored and subject to veterinary examinations at regular intervals. The fish will be kept without any medication and therefore free from toxic floating algae, pollution and parasites.
The complete processing of the fish will take place on board the sailboat. Fresh salmon will be skinned, sliced, gutted head on and filleted directly on board to ensure high quality, 90% boneless fish. Processed fish will be frozen directly and stored in refrigerated containers that can be shipped to all major ports around the world.
- How does Sailing Cargo stand out from the big market players?
Our main advantage is our high quality fish. Sailing Cargo is the first 100% emission-free and highly ecological producer of organic fish harvested from its natural environment. Through a clean and environmentally friendly fishing process, we guarantee our customers healthy, clean fish at an unbeatable fixed price of $18 per kg, unrelated to oil prices, energy costs or electricity tariffs. ‘charter. Our fish can be shipped and delivered to all major container ports around the world. Our mobile aquaculture system gives us the flexibility to call at ports where market prices are highest at all times.
- What’s next for Sailing Cargo?
We are looking for passionate partners and investors who want to help change the future of fish farming in a carbon neutral environment while benefiting from an unbeatable fixed price guarantee. Alongside experienced professionals and exceptional partners, Quadriga Aqua is a profitable project that combines environmentally friendly sail propulsion with innovative technology for farming seafood.
