EL SEGUNDO, Calif., July 07, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – WattEV Inc., a company dedicated to electrifying the heavy trucking industry, today announced that it has entered into a fleet electrification agreement with Total Transportation Services, Inc (TTSI), one of the leading freight carriers serving the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
As part of the first phase of the deal, TTSI will commission 16 electric trucks to transport loads from ports to regional destinations, including Bakersfield and San Bernardino. These first TTSI electric trucks will be the first to use WattEV’s charging and depot facilities in major transportation hubs.
The partnership between WattEV and TTSI is a first step towards reducing the significant emissions of particulate matter, nitrogen oxides and carbon produced by some 17,000, mostly older, Class 8 diesel trucks registered to serve two of the busiest ports in the country.
WattEV is developing an advanced software platform – trucks-as-a-service (TaaS) – designed specifically for the use of electric trucks within its network of charging stations. The TaaS platform helps fleets and truckers meet shipper requirements with sustainability goals while serving carriers with a viable business model.
“As we grow our transportation operations,” says Vic La Rosa, President and CEO of TTSI, “we are committed to making zero emissions a priority. Our strategic partnership with WattEV forms the basis for achieving our long-term sustainability goals and will help us continue to be recognized as an industry leader in cleaner air initiatives.
“TTSI’s participation in the design and deployment of our TaaS software platform and the deployment of our charging network is a significant validation of our technology and our business model,” said Salim Youssefzadeh, CEO of WattEV. “We look forward to working with them to play a role in decarbonizing the heavy haulage industry in Southern California. “
WattEV’s mission is to accelerate the transition of US road transport to zero emissions. It uses a combination of business and technological innovations to create a charging infrastructure and data-driven workflow that provides truckers and fleet operators with the lowest total cost of ownership. WattEV’s goal is to get 12,000 heavy-duty electric trucks on California roads by the end of 2030, exceeding existing forecasts. More information is available at www.wattev.com.
Total Transportation Services Inc. is an innovative asset-based logistics provider focused on sustainability, safety and California compliance. TTSI has a fleet of more than 229 trucks serving 30 terminals at seven sites in the United States. The company is committed to achieving a 100% green fleet.
