Women in Trucking Launches New Mentorship Program for New Drivers
The Women in Trucking Association (WIT) is launching a pilot mentoring program for novice female drivers through a partnership with LeadHERalliance Mentoring. The program, called LeadHERtrucking, will use the mentoring structure to match female drivers new to the industry with experienced female leaders who have long-term successful careers as drivers.
LeadHERtrucking is a 10-month mentoring program that includes monthly virtual meetings between a mentee and her mentor. Sessions will focus on mental health and wellness, leadership, resilience, financial independence, as well as the specific and unique challenges of being a female driver.
“Part of WIT’s mission is to encourage the employment of women in the trucking industry and to minimize the barriers they face,” said Sparks. “We believe the connections and mentorship created through this support system will make a significant difference in the lives of novice drivers. Our goal is to reduce the percentage of drivers who leave our industry in their first 12 months. This program will give the new driver the support she needs so much to navigate this complex industry, ”said Debbie Sparks, vice president of WIT.
- LeadHERtrucking will feature a curated list of topics relevant to women, presented monthly by women industry experts.
- At the end of the program, each woman becomes a life member of the LeadHER network, with access to hundreds of women around the world who they can reach out to for ongoing support and guidance.
